Overview

DiaTech Oncology is a privately held life sciences and clinical pathology laboratory based in Nashville, Tenn., whose core product is the patented Microculture Kinetic (MiCK) assay—also marketed as Correct Chemo—to measure apoptosis and predict which chemotherapeutic agents or combinations will kill a specific patient’s cancer cells. The MiCK assay exposes a patient’s tumor cells to multiple drugs or combinations, uses an algorithm to compute a drug effectiveness score, and reports which therapies are most likely to induce cell death. DiaTech says the test has shown significantly positive results and improved survival across more than 50 different types of cancer and has been used to evaluate drug effects in preclinical trials for the pharmaceutical industry. The company completed an $18 million equity capital raise and intends to use proceeds primarily to develop additional laboratories to support rapid growth and to expand relationships with payors and with institutional and academic research partners. Executives framed the funding as a means to accelerate serving patients and physicians and to broaden clinical and payer adoption of the test. Company leadership highlights the MiCK assay as the only test on the market that evaluates chemotherapeutic drug effect for a specific patient and can guide therapy to potentially extend survival and lower costs.
