Pieris AG is a clinical-stage biotechnology company advancing its proprietary Anticalin® platform to create differentiated protein therapeutics. The company received a €1m grant from the German Federal Ministry for Education and Research (BMBF) to support development of its PRS-110 compound targeting c-Met. The funded work will focus on delineating a biomarker strategy for early clinical development and advancing a personalized medicine approach for PRS-110. Pieris' pipeline includes lead compound PRS-050 (anti-VEGF), which recently completed a Phase I clinical trial, and multiple Anticalins in preclinical development across therapeutic areas. Pieris has signed four discovery and development collaborations with Daiichi Sankyo, Takeda San Francisco, the Sanofi Group and Allergan. The company is led by CEO Stephen Yoder and is backed by OrbiMed Advisors and Global Life Science Ventures. Pieris AG develops Anticalins, an engineered class of targeted human proteins derived from human lipocalin scaffolds. Anticalins are small (≈20 kDa), human‑origin binding proteins designed to offer antibody‑like selectivity and affinity with low immunogenicity, robust physicochemical properties, high solubility and stability, and advantageous tissue penetration. Pieris exclusively owns the Anticalin patent estate and applies protein engineering as part of a balanced risk business model to advance product candidates. The company is prioritising clinical development of PRS‑050, a VEGF‑modulating cancer candidate that has shown preclinical anti‑tumour activity and is being prepared for a Phase I study. Pieris recently raised €25 million (US$38M) in a Series B financing to progress its proprietary Anticalin portfolio and advance clinical priorities. The financing is intended to position Anticalins as a next class of biopharmaceutical products.
