Overview
Pieris is developing novel biotherapeutics based on its proprietary Anticalin® technology platform, with programs targeting cancer and lung diseases such as idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. Its most advanced proprietary program is PRS-220, an inhalable Anticalin®-based therapeutic being developed to treat SARS-CoV-2-induced lung injury and fibrotic lung changes following COVID-19. Pieris intends to expand clinical investigation of PRS-220 beyond idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis and has stated plans to initiate clinical development as early as this year. The company received public funding to accelerate clinical development of PRS-220, enabling faster progression toward regulatory maturity. Pieris emerged as a spin-off from the Technical University of Munich in 2001 and is based in Hallbergmoos near Munich. Stephen S. Yoder is named in the article as President and CEO and commented on the program and funding.
