Pinkoi is a curated e-commerce marketplace and community hub for independent designers across Asia. Launched in 2011 by Peter Yen, Maibelle Lin, and Mike Lee, the Taipei-based company has grown to 25,000 sellers and two million monthly users. It employs about 50 people and operates offices in Tokyo, Hong Kong, Bangkok and San Francisco, with plans to open in Shanghai. Pinkoi differentiates with a selective curation model—approving under 10% of applicants in Taiwan—and permits small-batch factory production when manufacturing is monitored. The startup recently launched an English-language site and raised $9M from Sequoia India and GMO Ventures to ramp expansion and improve product search and discovery. It has also developed its own software and an international transfer/forwarding service to scale shipping and attract buyers in North America, Europe, Australia and New Zealand.
