Developed by Permissionless Labs, Pipe is designing a crypto-enabled content delivery network intended to rival centralized incumbents such as Cloudflare and Akamai. The network follows a decentralized virtual infrastructure network (DeVIN) model, rewarding everyday users with tokens for lending spare computing resources and spinning up geographically distributed CDN nodes. By caching content closer to end-users, Pipe aims to reduce latency while lowering infrastructure costs for websites. The protocol will be built on the Solana blockchain, leveraging its performance to handle token transactions and network coordination. A public testnet launch is planned for the Breakpoint conference in Singapore, providing the first opportunity for external participants to run nodes and test the incentive mechanics. While still pre-revenue and pre-launch, the project recently secured $10 million to fund development and network expansion.
