Pixable develops browser-based and mobile tools (including Photofeed) that aggregate and intelligently sort friends' Facebook, Instagram and Flickr photos to create albums, slideshows, calendars and artwork. The service leverages captions, tags, comments and birthday data to automate album creation and ranking, and an early tool produced mosaics of Facebook photos. Pixable launched Photofeed as a Facebook app with a companion iPad app, and has since extended Photofeed to iPhone and across Web, iPad, iPhone and Android platforms. Since its January launch, Photofeed has sorted and ranked over 10 billion photos for 500,000 users. The company was founded by three MIT graduate students and will use new funds to scale its engineering team and infrastructure to handle increasing cross‑platform traffic. Pixable also plans to integrate video into Photofeed to categorize and rank videos friends are watching and sharing on Facebook and Twitter. Pixable offers a Calendar Creator that automatically pulls photos, birthdays and other metadata from users' Facebook accounts via the Facebook API to generate customizable desk or wall calendars. The product automates photo selection and date population so users can produce a populated calendar in about five minutes and print it for under $20. Creator lets users choose content sources (all Facebook content, specific albums, or tagged people), select friends to include, add public and religious holidays, zodiac signs, and custom dates, and adjust layout thumbnails. The company soft-launched in July 2009 with a public release in October and is based in New York. Pixable has raised $350,000 from angel investors and, since the public release, over 5,000 albums have been created. The team’s stated goal is to “become top-of-mind when it comes to photos and social networks,” though requiring a Facebook account limits the addressable audience.
