Overview
Pixium Vision is a Paris-based developer of retinal implant systems designed to restore vision for patients who have lost their sight. Its first device, IRIS1, is an epi-retinal implant currently in clinical trials with the goal of obtaining CE Mark. The company is developing IRIS2, a second-generation epi-retinal system intended to offer better visual acuity and incorporate several breakthrough technologies. Pixium is also developing a sub-retinal system, IRIS3, which the company says could improve vision significantly compared to IRIS1 and IRIS2. The firm plans to use recent financing to advance development of its IRIS retinal implant systems. Pixium was co-founded by Dr Bernard Gilly and Prof. José-Alain Sahel in November 2011 and has progressed through clinical-stage programs that have attracted strategic investors.
