Overview

Founded in 2019 by Benoît Grassin, Nicolas Klein and Caroline Ménager, Pixpay provides minors with a Mastercard and an app that lets parents monitor spending, block merchants, limit ATM withdrawals and track expenses by category. The product is positioned around safety and financial education for adolescents in a largely cash-distributed pocket-money market. Pixpay operates on a monthly subscription of €2.99 without commitment rather than a free service model. Three months after launching, the startup announced a new €8 million fundraising to scale operations. The company plans to hire about 20 new employees (sales, customer service and development) by September and to strengthen its position in France. Pixpay aims to continue supporting teens managing pocket money and eventually expand internationally, likely targeting Western Europe first. Pixpay is a French challenger bank aimed at teens older than 10, providing an account, a Mastercard debit card, and mobile apps for both parents and children. Cards can be customized (PIN), locked/unlocked, and send notifications for each transaction; parents can restrict limits, ATM withdrawals, online payments and payments abroad. The service supports virtual cards for online purchases and includes saving tools such as projects and vault accounts where parents can set an interest rate to teach saving. Parents can top up instantly by debit card, send recurring or one-off payments, and view multiple children's accounts; Pixpay plans to let teens collect money after jobs like babysitting and to allow multiple parents to manage a child's account. Pricing is €2.99 per month per card; payments and ATM withdrawals in the Eurozone are free, foreign-currency transactions carry a 2% FX fee, and ATM withdrawals outside the Eurozone cost €2.00. Pixpay partners with Treezor, a banking-as-a-service platform that enables card generation and e-wallet accounts via API. The startup has raised $3.4 million (€3.1 million) from Global Founders Capital.
