Plaato

Brenneriveien 9, Oslo, 0182, Norway

Overview

Plaato develops low-cost, plug-and-play fermentation sensors that connect to a SaaS platform for remote monitoring and data analysis, replacing manual sampling and enabling actionable insights. The technology was first developed for the home-brewing market and moved to early commercial deployments in 2022, now serving over 250 small and medium breweries, cideries and distilleries across 32 countries. Plaato says its system can help breweries optimize production by 10% or more, salvage batches, reduce waste from manual sampling, and retrofit existing stainless-steel tanks. The team is based in Norway and Denmark, with the U.S. representing 47% of current sales. The company is running collaborative trials with the Norwegian University of Life Sciences (NMBU) to explore monitoring for alternative protein and precision fermentation. Plaato recently won the Food Tech Challengers award in Warsaw and intends to use new funding to accelerate commercial growth and product development.
