Overview
Plaio is a Reykjavik, Iceland–based software company that provides an AI-assisted decision-support platform for pharmaceutical supply chain planning. Its core product, branded as the “AI Coplanner,” combines industry expertise with AI to optimize complex planning processes for the pharmaceutical industry. The company says its client portfolio has grown by 200% in the last 12 months and includes customers such as Covis Pharma, Alvotech, and Camarus. Plaio plans to use the €4.3M in new funding to implement strategic enhancements to the AI Coplanner offering and to strengthen and develop new and existing partnerships. The round was led by Iðunn and included participation from existing investors Frumtak Ventures and Dr. Agon, following prior investments from Coripharma, EpiEndo Pharmaceuticals and Kara Connect. The company was founded by Johann Gudbjargarson Hlynur Stefansson and Eyjolfur Ingi Asgeirsson. Plaio provides a visual, predictive, interactive planning platform that sits atop a company’s ERP and is underpinned by an AI-powered Copilot product. The Copilot offers automation suggestions and visualisations showing how small workflow changes affect planning and production, aiming to increase manufacturing and financial efficiency. Plaio targets the generic pharmaceutical industry to reduce waste, minimise stockouts of end products and raw materials, and improve regulatory and compliance visibility. The company lists Swiss MS Pharma and Icelandic Coripharma as clients, with Coripharma testing and validating the software for the past two years. Plaio was founded in May of this year as a continuation of founder Jóhann Guðbjargarson’s prior ventures, Rhino Aviation and Rhino Solutions. Financially, Plaio has completed a €2 million pre-Series A funding round.
