Overview

Planday provides a cloud-based rota scheduling and collaboration platform designed for shift workers and their managers. The software enables real-time, contextual communication, allows employees to swap shifts and clock in/out, and gives managers ‘smart’ schedule templates, revenue-vs-wage measurement, and hours tracking. It integrates with third-party payroll and EPOS systems including Intuit, Sage, Lightspeed and iZettle. Founded in 2013, the company says its customer base spans 39 countries and reports 250% annual growth in the U.K., though it does not disclose absolute customer numbers. Planday plans to use new funding to further develop its product, expand into new markets across Europe and North America, establish a U.K.-based technology development hub, and grow sales and customer support teams in London. Chief Commercial Officer John Coldicutt said the company’s mission is to deliver fully integrated solutions that provide a seamless experience for customers. Planday offers a cloud-based workforce management and shift-planning solution used by shift-based businesses such as restaurants, hotels, stores, call centers and gyms. Employees use the Planday app to communicate with workplaces and colleagues, receive messages and notifications, swap shifts, bid on open shifts, and view expected and actual monthly salary. Employers use Planday to create and maintain optimal schedules while accounting for staffing needs, budgets, employee availability and workforce regulations. The company plans to use new capital to scale in the Nordics, U.K., Germany and U.S., and to partner and integrate more tightly with payroll providers, hiring services and EPOS technologies. Planday reports 100% year-on-year growth, approximately 100,000 end users in 24 countries, roughly 2,000 company customers, a team of more than 80 people and five international offices. Planday offers a cloud-based shift planning and workforce management platform for businesses that rely on flexible staff, including restaurants, hotels, retail, call centers and gyms. The software automates scheduling, staffing requirements, work-hour regulations and labor cost tracking, and integrates communication via web and mobile apps. Employees can self-manage shift trading while managers gain oversight of schedules, swap requests, payslips and colleagues. The platform also moves related HR, communication and payroll tasks online to save managers time and money. Planday says it is already profitable and is positioning to scale beyond Denmark, targeting the U.K. first and the U.S. next year.
