PlanetWatch
50 Rue Gustave Eiffel, Saint-Genis-Pouilly, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, 01630, France
Overview
PlanetWatch deploys a dense, low-cost air quality monitoring network using high-performance sensors, advanced algorithms, and the Algorand blockchain to build an immutable global air quality data ledger. The network powers data products for governmental and private sector entities and currently has over 20,000 sensors active worldwide. The company plans to strengthen its technical infrastructure, expand the monitoring network, and boost business development with the new funding. PlanetWatch is an official CERN spin-off and a member of the Crypto Sustainability Coalition fostered by the World Economic Forum. Claudio Parrinello leads the company as CEO. The firm leverages Algorand technology as a core part of its decentralized data approach. PlanetWatch leverages the Algorand blockchain to store real-time data from a dense mesh of air-quality sensors and to reward contributors with the PLANET utility token. The company decentralizes and incentivizes air-quality monitoring by distributing tokens to sensor owners. Most sensors are installed by individuals (indoors, outdoors or carried), with additional deployments through partnerships with transport and telecommunications companies and local authorities. PlanetWatch is testing its platform and aims for a full launch during the summer. The company has joined CERN’s spin-off partnership program and the Eterna Borderless Venture Studio (an initiative led by Eterna Capital, Borderless Capital, and Algorand). The company is led by CEO Claudio Parrinello and is based in St. Genis-Pouilly, France.
