Playbook

Overview
Playbook is a YC-backed mobile app focused on college campuses that lets students post short plans or “plays” (e.g., studying, grabbing lunch, playing basketball) so others nearby can join offline. The product emphasizes spontaneous, location-driven meetups rather than extended in-app scheduling and aims to minimize time spent inside the app. The concept began in 2014 as a spreadsheet to track friends’ summer locations and expanded into Summer Playbook across 13 schools; Heine and Rouvinov rebuilt the site in 2016 and launched the app later. The app piloted at Harvard (launched in February) and Playbook plans rollouts at Princeton, Wellesley, Yale‑NUS, and the University of Michigan. On the desktop site last summer roughly 2,400 people from 230 universities across 126 countries signed up and about 1,600 conversations were started; since the app’s Feb. 11 launch it had 244 users with 30% checking back daily. Playbook has raised $120K from Y Combinator; Sean Sullivan is listed as the company’s first employee.
