Playbrush

52 Horseferry Road, 2nd Floor, London, England, SW1P 2AF, United Kingdom

Overview

Playbrush builds a smart device that connects to any manual toothbrush and transforms it into a gaming controller that pairs with iOS, Android and Amazon Kindle Fire devices. The product uses games to motivate children to brush regularly, for longer periods, and with greater accuracy. The company was co-founded by Matthäus Ittner, Tolulope Ogunsina and Paul Varga and is based in Vienna, with additional offices in London and San Francisco. Playbrush has arranged a partnership with Austrian drugstore chain BIPA to make the product available in over 600 stores nationwide. The company raised $2m in funding to continue expanding its operations. Playbrush builds an IoT game controller that attaches to any normal toothbrush and connects to a smartphone app that converts brushing motions into video games. The device was developed in partnership with Eastman Dental Hospital in London and the company currently offers two games. Playbrush first crowdfunded over £35,000 on Kickstarter last year and put the device on sale in November. The company has raised £500,000 from angel investor Hansi Hansmann and Speedinvest. The new funds will be used for distribution and marketing and to further develop its games and apps. Co-founder Paul Varga said he was inspired by his godson’s poor brushing habits and designed Playbrush to encourage children to brush properly.
