Playcez is a Delhi-based startup that operates an events discovery app for Indian users. Its app monitors social media and check-in activity to judge locations where traffic is highest, recommends nearby events and activities, and shows what’s hot by distance. The product is currently in private beta and was slated for release in two weeks. Playcez recently closed a seed round reported at roughly $500,000. Founder Ashwani Gaur said India’s growing smartphone user base is creating demand for location-based social products despite waning hype cycles in the U.S. The company participated in the Global Superangels Forum (GSF) mentorship program and plans to expand beyond India in the future.
