Overview
Playermaker, founded in 2016, builds footwear-mounted sensors that track motion from the left and right shoe to deliver professional-grade technical, tactical, biomechanical, and physical data. Its solution removes the need for GPS, making the trackers usable indoors. The product is already in use by more than 250 teams and is sold to consumers (trackers are available on Amazon for just under $200 per set). The company says the data can help athletes maximize skills, monitor injury risk, and expedite recovery. Playermaker plans to extend beyond soccer into additional sports, beginning with basketball, and to develop a new multisport platform. Recent fundraising will be used to accelerate global and consumer-market growth and broaden access across genders and skill levels. PlayerMaker builds a players’ performance platform that uses motion sensors mounted on players’ boots and AI algorithms to track and analyze technical, tactical, biomechanical and physical movement on and off the ball. The system supplies managers, coaches and players with granular performance data and insights. It is active in more than 10 countries and is used by clubs such as Fulham, Millwall, Manchester City, Norwich City, Crystal Palace, Hull City, Club America, Toronto FC, Atlanta United and Argentina’s Olympic national team. Led by CEO and co-founder Guy Aharon, the company recently completed a funding round to support growth. PlayerMaker raised $10 million in a Series B and plans to use the funds to build on traction throughout EMEA and expand into the American and Asian markets. In May, Arsène Wenger joined as an investor and operating partner after observing the system in action.
