PlayJam delivers online big-screen gaming and video-on-demand content to users in over 80 countries via plug-in devices for Android-powered TV. The company works with US tier-one and tier-two MSOs, set-top box manufacturers and silicon providers to launch OTT services, including TV-ready games for the living room. PlayJam will use the funds to accelerate user growth, expand its distribution network — in particular in China and other emerging markets — and optimize its platform promotion, advertising, purchasing and customer-relationship systems. In conjunction with the funding, PlayJam and Gate Ventures established a joint venture covering China, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan, in which Gate will own 80% and PlayJam 20%. The company has operating offices in China and the USA and a development office in Krakow, Poland. Existing backers include Adobe Ventures, GameStop, Cox Communications and China-based firms Innoplay and Avit PLC. PlayJam is a London-based company that operates a social games platform for TV and provides developers with an open-architecture platform and advanced tool-set to enhance, promote, monetize and distribute content via connected TV. The platform includes features such as billing, leader-boards, tournaments and integration with third-party social networks and TV programming. PlayJam distributes its platform via leading connected TV brands including Samsung, LG, Panasonic and Sony. The company plans to launch an SDK in Q2 2012 to enable seamless integration of those features. PlayJam intends to use the newly raised funds to expand into Asian and US markets. The company is led by CEO Jasper Smith.
