Overview
PlaySquare is a startup founded by Emmy-winning children’s television producers that builds "touchable TV" interactive apps for the iPad. It transforms licensed assets from PBS's WordWorld into in-TV activities that advance stories rather than passive viewing. The company reports close to 100,000 downloads and users have spent over 13 million minutes in the app since launch, averaging more than five minutes per session. PlaySquare's team is seven people and will relocate to Curious Pictures' New York offices to leverage the larger company's talent and infrastructure. The company plans to release two more WordWorld episodes this fall (priced $2.99 each via in-app purchase) and has signed a second, undisclosed property for production this fall. Longer-term it aims to pursue more original content and act as a studio partner for larger TV brands to scale its touchable-TV approach.
