Pleek is a picture-first messaging app that launched on Android and iOS and targets a young, selfie-oriented audience. The app lets users start open threads to exchange photos and up-to-8-second videos, add text and overlay stickers, and use group chat. Archived threads can be turned into photo collages for sharing on social networks, via SMS, or saved to the phone’s photo album. Pleek has attracted attention from celebrities including Nicki Minaj, Karim Benzema and Vine personality Jerome Jarre. Financially, the company has garnered $600,000 in a funding round led by Paris-based Partech Ventures. Reports that Sean “Diddy” Combs was poised to invest surfaced but Pleek denied the report and Diddy’s representatives called it erroneous.
