PlugMed

Overview
PlugMed develops medical devices that transfer electricity or fluids through the skin with fewer infection risks, focusing on osseointegrated dialysis connectors. The company is advancing its Geroneph project to create a retroauricular connector for peritoneal and hemodialysis that aims to lower bacteraemia and other catheter-related infections. PlugMed says the technology could improve quality of life by facilitating activities such as bathing and by promoting home dialysis (both home hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis). The device is being developed in collaboration with nephrologists and surgeons and is intended to transfer dialysate or blood with a low infection risk. PlugMed received €200,000 in Phase 1 of France’s World Innovation Challenge to assess technological feasibility and is using further funding to reach a first-in-man study. The company positions the product to reduce care costs and create a new market segment for dialysis connectors.
