Plum District

77 Stillman St, San Francisco, California, 94107, United States

Overview

Plum District is a daily-deals site that curates local offers for moms, sourcing deals through a network of "District Consultants"—mothers who run customized marketing programs for their regions. The company combines deal distribution with viral social sharing and mobile loyalty features, and is integrating technology from its Chatterfly acquisition to power neighborhood rewards and social referrals. Plum District operates in 27 U.S. markets (70 districts), employs District Consultants and plans to grow to 90 full-time employees, and has close to 1 million subscribers. It has run over 10,000 deals to date and reports strong social sharing (75% of subscribers have shared a deal). Recent acquisitions (Chatterfly and DoodleDeals) expand its product capabilities and East Coast distribution partnerships. Management says new capital will be used to deepen relationships between moms and local merchants and to roll out the combined loyalty system in test markets. Plum District is a San Francisco-based daily deal website focused on moms and their families. The service sends a daily deal relevant to moms, covering spa treatments, restaurants, family outings and kids' activities. It currently covers more than twenty U.S. metro areas, including the San Francisco Bay Area, San Diego, Orange County, Los Angeles, Chicago, New York, Washington DC and Minneapolis. CEO Megan Gardner said the investment will allow the company to grow its sales network and expand reach beyond the twenty districts it currently serves. Plum District received $8.5M in Series A funding led by Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers with participation from General Catalyst Partners. KPCB partner Aileen Lee will join Plum District’s board in conjunction with the financing.
