Overview
Plumbr offers software that automatically detects the root causes of Java performance issues, evolving from an initial memory-optimizing tool into a broader Java performance monitoring solution. The product claims to "zoom in" on problems sufficiently to highlight exact lines of code or configuration causing failures, reducing hours or days of manual troubleshooting. Its target customers are companies running business-critical systems — banks, e-commerce sites, and product development firms — and it claims more than 100 customers globally, including NASA, NATO, Dell, HBO, Experian, and EMC Corporation. Founded in late 2011 out of a PhD research project, the Estonian company does roughly half of its business in the U.S. The company plans to boost its U.S. marketing presence and open an east coast office. It recently picked up $700,000 in new funding to support product development and U.S. expansion. Plumbr, founded in late 2011 out of a PhD research project, offers a memory-optimizing tool that uses machine-learning to predict and avoid software failures. Customers download and attach a Plumbr agent that gathers data for analysis by a cloud-based solution; the company also offers an onsite enterprise option that does not require a connection to its servers. When Plumbr finds anomalies it produces human-readable reports that identify faulty lines of source code and suggest fixes, and the company says finding a problem takes on average 70 minutes. Targeting banks, e-commerce sites and product development companies, Plumbr already counts over 100 paying customers including HBO, Dell, NATO, TeliaSonera and Ericsson, and says those customers have detected more than 3,500 memory leaks. CEO and co-founder Priit Potter says the new $1M seed capital will be used to boost product development and build the sales team and processes, and the company expects to at least double its customer base in 2014. Plumbr also plans to file for 1-2 patents per year and claims its customers have saved 'millions of dollars' in man hours, infrastructure costs and lost revenue.
