Podio offers a connected work platform with messaging, calendars, tasks and contact management plus a no-code app builder that lets users create bespoke tools. Users have already built over 2,000 apps — including CRM systems, meeting planners, recruiting and employee feedback tools — and an app store exists to distribute them. The company reports roughly 6,000 organizations using Podio while operating in an invite-only Beta. Podio plans to use new funding to further develop the product and to hire key employees. The startup competes with offerings such as BaseCamp, Yammer, Trampoline Systems, Huddle and Microsoft Sharepoint. Podio is based in Copenhagen, Denmark, and is led by founder and CEO Tommy Ahlers, who previously sold ZYB to Vodafone for €31 million in 2008.
