PointCare Technologies Inc. is a Marlborough, Mass.-based diagnostics maker that develops a mobile point-of-care blood analyzer for people with HIV/AIDS. The analyzer is targeted at low-resource settings including Nigeria, Senegal and Zambia. According to SEC filings, PointCare has raised $1.8 million of a possible $3.5 million funding round. The company said it would use the funds for general working capital. In August, PointCare signed a distribution deal with Siemens Healthcare Diagnostics in South Africa to distribute the product in southern and eastern Africa. The filing indicates the company has secured a little more than half of the funding it is seeking.
