Overview
Polara is a Québec-based company developing the CHRGPK ("chargepack"), an infrastructure solution for charging medium- and heavy-duty electric vehicles. The firm is working on a CHRGPK 2.0 that adds integrated energy management and vehicle-to-grid (V2G)/vehicle-to-everything capabilities to improve network interaction. The project aims to improve energy efficiency, reduce harmonics from AC-to-DC conversion, and optimize charging speed to protect battery temperature, life, performance and safety. Polara received $1.5 million in government funding to support research, development and demonstration of the upgraded unit. Over a two-year program the team will complete design, programming, assembly and testing, and deploy the CHRGPK 2.0 at a yet-to-be-determined site with at least six stations (3 AC and 3 DC). The funding, announced under the Decarbonizing Road Transport stream of the federal Energy Innovation Program, is intended to accelerate adoption of fleet electrification in Canada.
