Pollenity, formerly Bee Smart Technologies and founded in 2014, builds sensor-equipped hardware and software for monitoring hive health and has pivoted from a B2B focus to a consumer-facing smart hive with an integrated device. Its early product, BeeBot, was a 7 kg sensor box designed for commercial beekeepers and was originally sold alongside a software subscription. The company is now targeting small and hobbyist beekeepers with a simpler smart-hive product while continuing to pursue B2B opportunities as the market matures. Pollenity is layering new features including a cryptocurrency incentive system with open-source project BuzzCoin to reward good beekeeping and to collect behavioral data. It has formed partnerships for data processing and connectivity with Austrian telecom A1, Dutch satellite IoT provider Hiber, and may join Oracle’s World Bee Project. The company is also leading an academic research initiative called Hivopolis with five European universities led by the University of Graz and has secured recent financing to support these plans.
