Pollfish offers a mobile-first survey platform that lets anyone create DIY surveys and deliver them to app users, and it provides an Android and iOS SDK for developers to integrate surveys and monetize apps. The platform claims a reach of 120 million users in the last 12 months, runs surveys on more than 8,000 mobile apps, and hosts “millions” of surveys every month. Customers range from SMEs and individual researchers to enterprises including Oracle, OMD, Deutsche Telekom, Mondelez, Mercedes and Millward Brown. The company positions itself as an alternative revenue source for publishers and a fast source of real-time market insights for businesses. Pollfish plans to use the new capital to fund continued U.S. expansion and business development. Although its core team is based in Greece, the company is incorporated in the U.S. and says business development and marketing operate from the U.S., leaving it largely unaffected by the Greek crisis. Pollfish offers an SDK for Android and iOS that inserts survey questions as ad overlays inside mobile apps and operates a marketplace matching survey makers with app developers. Its platform handles survey targeting, distribution, and real-time collection and display of results for survey buyers. Developers integrate the lightweight SDK, can continue using other ad platforms alongside Pollfish, and—according to the company—earn at least $0.30 per completed survey. The technology measures users' openness to answering questions and calibrates prompt frequency, and provides three opt-out mechanisms to reduce friction. Developers may survey their own users for free provided they also accept outside surveys. Pollfish currently has about 400 developers worldwide and expects reach to grow as more developers sign up; the company declined to share revenue numbers but said it is "doing quite well."
