Poncho provides a parametric weather insurance product that businesses can integrate into their booking flows to let customers add weather protection at time of booking. The company uses a proprietary system that tailors coverage and pricing to location, date, and activity and monitors weather in real time with high-resolution models. When predefined weather conditions are exceeded Poncho automatically issues refunds so customers have no insurance claim to file. Poncho has partnered with selected businesses to embed its product in booking processes and help reduce last-minute cancellations caused by bad weather. The recently raised CHF 550,000 seed round will be used for customer acquisition and growth. Management says it plans to expand its footprint across the Swiss travel and leisure landscape.
