Pontiro is a Newport-based cyber and data innovation startup focused on removing data-sharing barriers in healthcare by automating the anonymisation of medical images and clinical reports. Its platform detects and strips out hidden identifiers while preserving full clinical detail, allowing hospitals and researchers to use data safely for diagnosis, research and AI development. Early NHS pilots demonstrated up to a 98% reduction in anonymisation time with 99.9% accuracy, and the system has already processed more than two million medical images inside the NHS. The company emerged from the Cyber Innovation Hub’s Venture Building Programme after a challenge from NHS Wales exposed data-sharing constraints as a key hurdle to AI adoption. Pontiro is now extending its solution beyond Wales, aiming to broaden NHS partnerships, grow its customer base and add capabilities such as AI evaluation and ROI measurement. The recent seed financing provides capital for further product development, customer acquisition and commercial scaling.
