Poolit operates a platform that aggregates registered funds allowing accredited investors to become LPs in VC and private equity funds with minimums as low as $1. It offers two funds on launch: the Imagine fund (all venture capital firms) and the Horizon fund (all private equity firms), with partner firms including Bain Capital Ventures, Coatue, CD&R and Apax. Poolit partners with Meketa to conduct manager due diligence, uses KPMG for audits, and structures each fund with independent boards and third-party administrators to provide investor protections. The company charges an annualized 1% management fee and has established a limited quarterly share repurchase program that begins after the first year. As of December 9, when the platform became public, Poolit had more than 500 users and about $140 million of reservations. Founder Dakotah Rice left Harvard Business School to work on the company full time and says he aims eventually to expand access beyond accredited investors, subject to regulatory constraints.
