Portify

58 rue de Ponthieu, Paris, Ile-de-France, 75008, France

Overview

Portify offers a mobile app that combines Open Banking-powered financial insights with tailored products aimed at gig economy, flexible and self-employed workers. It launched credit services earlier this year, including a revolving credit line currently capped at £250. The company plans to increase credit limits to £500–£1,000 for a select cohort and to offer credit-building and personal loans for micro-business use. Portify has expanded its go-to-market from a B2B2C partnership model (working with platforms like Deliveroo) to direct B2C access via app stores. The startup is working with major credit bureaus to report user-consented data to help improve credit scores for thin-file users. Founded in May 2017 by EF alumni Sho Sugihara (CEO) and Chris Butcher (CTO), Portify is focused on financially including modern workers who are often credit invisible. Portify provides a mobile app and a suite of tailored financial products aimed at gig-economy and flexible workers, distributed primarily via a B2B2C model with partner gig platforms and temp staffing agencies. Users securely connect their bank accounts to get insights on current income, manage cash flow, budget for taxes and recurring expenses, and access emergency credit with select stores. The app also offers rewards at partner merchants and services, listing partners such as TransferWise, Amazon and Spotify. Portify’s stated mission centers on tackling immediate income volatility, improving day-to-day budgeting, and enabling long-term financial planning for independent workers. The product is being used by couriers, ride-hailing drivers, retail shop staff and hospitality workers, among others. The company recently raised seed funding of £1.3M to support its growth and product rollout.
