Positive Food Co produces freshly packaged salads, heat-and-eat prepared meals and vegan overnight oats and sells them through grocery channels including Whole Foods and Bristol Farms. The company operates an in-house production and cold-chain logistics network and uses a proprietary Monte Carlo simulation to plug in point-of-sale data to manage inventory and reduce food waste. Founders Schuyler Deerman and James Chan started selling meals at WeWork offices around Los Angeles before expanding into wholesale and grocery distribution. The business was disrupted by COVID, during which the founders streamlined operations, revamped the menu and packaging, and completed USDA approvals. Positive Food says it has been growing in double-digits month over month, has zero churn, and produced five times as much food this year versus the same period in 2021. The company plans to use the new funding to expand logistics and launch into new channels and stores beyond Whole Foods.
