Posterous is a Y Combinator–backed publishing platform founded in 2008 by Sachin Agarwal, Garry Tan and Brett Gibson. It began as an email-to-post photo service (email to post@posterous.com) and expanded to support video and text blogging, CSS customization and use of custom domains. The company emphasizes simplicity and unrestricted usage, storage and customization for free users. Posterous has generated some revenue, including an early branded site deal with Coca‑Cola, and plans to launch a paid "pro" version later in the year to support JavaScript and site monetization for brands. Product development is active — the company recently released Post.ly to simplify media sharing to Twitter — and CEO Sachin Agarwal says their goal is to become synonymous with "posting." At the time of the article Posterous reported 12 million unique monthly visitors, 25 million page views and 30% monthly growth in 2009, with a team that grew from 4 to 6 employees. Posterous is an email-first blogging platform that allows users to publish text, images, video and other files simply by emailing post@posterous.com, with no account required. The site can repost inbound content to Twitter, Facebook, Flickr, Tumblr and other services. Since launching in June the company has steadily added features and today announced group blogs so owners can add collaborators' email addresses to allow others to post to post@sitename.posterous.com without registration. That group-blog feature is pitched as useful for families, sports teams and similar groups to share photos and video. Posterous is a Y Combinator startup. Financially, the company has just closed a second angel round of $725,000 led by XG Ventures alongside a bevy of high-profile individual investors.
