Powa Technologies is a London-based provider of a platform allowing consumers and businesses to make transactions through mobile devices. Its core product suite includes PowaPIN, a device and card reader that enables credit and debit card payments via mobile apps on iPhone, iPad, Android, Windows and BlackBerry devices. Founded in 2007 by Dan Wagner, the company aims to broaden mobile payment acceptance among merchants and consumers. The company raised approximately $76m in financing, which it said will fund hiring and expansion. The investment will allow Powa to add up to 250 employees in the UK and 200 employees elsewhere in the world. An unnamed backer acquired a less-than-25% stake as part of the financing.
