Power Wood
Maitland House, Warrior Square, Southend, SS1 2JY, United Kingdom
Overview
Power Wood develops and operates facilities that convert wildfire-damaged deadwood, diseased trees and forest floor debris into steam-treated black pellets. Its planned Peace River facility near La Crête and Hay Meadow plant near High Level are intended to produce a combined 700,000 tonnes annually. The pellets are marketed as a drop-in coal replacement for existing thermal power stations and Power Wood has secured 10-year take-or-pay offtake agreements with multiple Japanese energy companies. The company’s feedstock-to-fuel conversion is described as producing a negligible carbon footprint compared with conventional coal. The recent CA$84m in project financing is intended to fund completion of the Peace River site, construction of a rail spur and the Hay Meadow plant, subject to third-party construction financing and definitive documentation.
