Prataap Snacks, founded in 2003 and based in Indore, makes and sells potato-based snacks, extruded snacks and traditional namkeen and recently expanded into noodles. The company was launched by brothers Amit and Apurva Kumat and Arvind Mehta. Reported net sales rose over 25% to Rs 559 crore for the year ended March 31, 2015; FY2015-16 financials had not been filed with the Registrar of Companies at the time of the report. The firm is majority-owned by Sequoia Capital (about 65% after roughly $40 million invested across three rounds). Management has been reported to be exploring a pre-IPO fundraising and has been linked to plans for an eventual public offering and earlier discussions to raise $50–70 million. The snacks category is competitive and fragmented, with large incumbents holding a dominant share of the western snacks segment, which informs Prataap’s growth and exit planning.
