Overview
Pray.com provides a tailored social networking platform for religious communities to communicate, request prayers, donate to non-profits and religious organizations, and for leaders to access analytics. Founded in 2016 and based in Santa Monica, the app gives religious leaders tools to gauge reach and grow membership. Since its seed round the company says it has signed up users in more than 185 countries and now hosts over 20,000 religious communities. The company plans to use new funding for product development, including live audio and video to broadcast sermons and music, plus features to help communities fundraise for causes and events. Pray.com also aims to build what it calls the world's largest directory of faith organizations and has engaged with the broader faith-tech community, including participating in a Vatican-hosted hackathon. The platform reports broad demographic usage, with particularly vibrant activity from women who use the app to strengthen offline community connections. Pray.com is an interfaith mobile app that helps religious leaders keep in touch with congregants through community prayer, small-group chats, and faith-leader broadcasts. The app also includes tools for group chats and charitable donations and was tested in beta with more than 100 communities of different sizes. The team initially bootstrapped development before raising external capital. Pray.com raised $2 million in seed funding to grow its team and further develop the product. The startup is participating in the Laudato Si’ Fellowship in Rome, advised by Cardinal Peter Turkson, as it works on mission-aligned strategy. The company plans to pursue a profitable business model and, once at scale, hopes to monetize by offering paid services to faith organizations.
