PredictionIO develops an open-source machine-learning server that lets developers build recommendation and prediction engines without starting from scratch. The company pivoted from a SaaS "TappingStone" product to an open-source server shortly after launch to prioritize customizability and developer adoption. PredictionIO raised a $2.5M seed round to further develop its open-source server. It plans to monetize via enterprise support licenses and possibly an enterprise edition with advanced features.
