Overview
Prepared, led by CEO Michael Chime, is a NYC-based provider of assistive AI to public safety agencies. Its flagship platform is an end-to-end assistive AI toolbox that consolidates critical functionality onto a single screen for PSAPs. The platform is designed to empower PSAPs to improve integrated AI. The company partners with over 1,000 agencies across 49 states that protect nearly 100 million people. Prepared intends to use the new funds to expand operations and its development efforts. Since its founding in 2019, it has raised over $130M in venture funding. Prepared offers a web-based platform that enables 911 dispatchers to receive callers' real-time GPS location (when supported), texts, images, and iPhone Emergency SOS Live Video calls. The platform displays a running transcript of calls and uses AI to extract addresses and incident descriptions, translate texts, and generate short AI summaries for dispatchers. It also launched an AI-generated voice tool that lets dispatchers chat with Spanish speakers by transcribing, translating, and reading translations aloud. Prepared says AI features are optional and that video, GPS location, and texting capabilities are free for 911 centers. The company was founded in 2019 by Michael Chime, Dylan Gleicher, and Neal Soni after pivoting from a school-focused app to serving 911 call centers. Prepared has deals with close to 1,000 public safety agencies across 49 states, employs about 50 people in New York, and plans to add 20 staffers by the end of the year while continuing product and go-to-market expansion. Prepared builds mission-critical multimedia and text tools for public safety, with its flagship product Prepared Live allowing 9-1-1 centers to receive livestream, photos, and text directly from callers. The company offers paid add-ons including Prepared OnScene, which extends data to responders in the field, and Prepared Live Enhanced, which automatically translates texts in over 140 languages. Prepared’s core Prepared Live product remains free while paid features drive monetization and product expansion. Since founding in 2019 it has partnered with hundreds of agencies across 48 states, protecting over 75 million people. Financially, the company has raised more than $30 million to date and recently closed a $16M Series A. Prepared plans to use the new capital to expand its team across engineering, marketing, sales, and product. Prepared provides technology to modernize the U.S. 911 system by enabling dispatchers to send callers a text that connects them to a web app for uploading rich media. The company moved away from a consumer app after discovering most citizens don’t preinstall safety apps, and instead focuses on integrations used by dispatch centers. Prepared launched its service 10 months ago and currently has 30 cities signed up, representing roughly 2 million citizens. To accelerate adoption it offers the service to cities for free and relies on word-of-mouth spread between centers. The company has raised external capital to grow its in-market footprint before aggressively monetizing. Founders plan potential monetization via freemium features and by federating 911 data to other groups; Prepared’s CEO said the company may see some revenue this year. Prepared was born about 3.5 years ago from work the founders began while at Yale.
