Overview
Prescreen is a social movie-discovery and on-demand streaming platform that lets users watch free trailers, add titles to a queue, and rent content to stream for up to 60 days. The service sends daily deal-style emails and uses a Groupon-like approach to surface curated independent films and other long-form content. The relaunch adds Facebook Open Graph integration and Facebook Connect signup so trailer views and queued titles can appear in friends' timelines and enable social sharing discounts. Prescreen monetizes by taking a cut of on-demand sales (with the remainder going to content owners), charging fees for non-exclusive content, and offering analytics, demographics, and ad-placement opportunities to content producers. The company plans to expand beyond indie films into stand-up specials, concerts, and larger-budget movies, build a producer dashboard, and add curated features from notable directors. To date Prescreen has raised $1 million in seed financing and is assembling an advisory board that already includes Blockbuster executive Tim Wesley and IM Global founder Stewart Ford.
