Prezi

Overview
Prezi offers a cloud presentation platform centered on an interactive, zoomable infinite canvas that emphasizes spatial storytelling. The company reports 50 million users and about 160 million Prezis created, nearly doubling its user base in the past 12 months and attracting roughly 55,000 new users per day. Prezi has won enterprise customers including Salesforce, Lufthansa, Marriott and IBM and is used for presentations, training and education. The company has been running on revenues and, prior to this round, had raised $15.1M while operating frugally with teams in Budapest and San Francisco (about 180 employees in Budapest and 70 in San Francisco). CEO Peter Arvai says the new investor’s long-term perspective aligns with plans to take the platform to the next level. Prezi’s stated mission is to help two billion people make better decisions; the new capital is intended to accelerate its growth. Prezi is a cloud-based presentation tool that replaces slide-by-slide decks with non-linear, animated storytelling visuals that allow panning and zooming. Users can choose templates or build custom storytelling boards and insert images, videos, YouTube links, PDFs, and other files. Prezi offers an iPad app (one of iTunes’ top 10 free productivity apps), Prezi Desktop for offline editing, and Prezi Meeting for real-time collaboration. The company has accumulated over 7 million registered users, is cash-flow positive, and counts customers such as the World Economic Forum, Stanford, Facebook, IBM, and Google. Future plans highlighted by leadership include international expansion, enhanced collaboration features, and expanding platform support. The new funding will be used to hire talent, broaden platform reach, and widen the company’s global presence. Prezi offers a visually driven presentation tool and has launched a Prezi app for the iPad to enable live presentations on the tablet. The iPad app displays most past presentations flawlessly, though presentations containing Flash (for example, embedded videos) cannot be fully viewed on the device. At launch the app does not support creating or editing presentations on the iPad, but the company expects editing capabilities to arrive later. Prezi counts organizations such as the World Economic Forum, Stanford University, Facebook, IBM and Google among its users. The company has raised an undisclosed amount of funding from TED Conferences and Sunstone Capital and lists Jack Dorsey among its advisors. Since its launch in April 2009 Prezi has attracted over 1.85 million registered users across 220 countries, with the United States as its largest market followed by Europe and Asia.
