Privateer operates a portfolio of cannabis businesses and brands, and has been active for the last five years. It counts two profitable business units: Leafly, billed as the world’s largest cannabis information resource, and Tilray, described as the largest single supplier of medical‑grade cannabis in Canada. The company formed a third business unit, Marley Natural, in partnership with Bob Marley’s family and plans to launch those products in the U.S. and other pot‑friendly geographies. CEO Brendan Kennedy, formerly COO of SVB Analytics, says Privateer intends to build multiple mainstream consumer brands to capture different segments of the market. The company has positioned itself to professionalize the industry and use brand launches to reach mainstream American consumers. The recently closed financing is intended to help advance that agenda.
