Proeon develops a range of plant-based proteins and base ingredients for food manufacturers, including proteins derived from amaranth, chickpea, hemp seed, and mung bean. Its technology aims to solve formulation challenges at the ingredient level, improving solubility, emulsification, gelation, and sensory and nutritional properties. The company works with customers to select and adapt protein ingredients to achieve the right balance of functional attributes for tastier, healthier plant-based meat, dairy, and egg replacements. Proeon collaborates with brands in Europe, North America, and Southeast Asia on highly functional plant-based egg as well as clean-label burgers, patties, and dairy alternatives. Founded in 2018 and based in Pune, the startup raised $2.4 million in seed funding to support growth. Proeon will use the capital to establish an R&D facility in the Netherlands, file intellectual property, and hire to build out the team while expanding its presence in Europe and North America.
