Overview
ProfitBricks offers IaaS with very large, flexible instances that scale up to 62 cores and 240 GB of RAM and use InfiniBand networking capable of about 80 Gbits/sec. Its platform allows customers to provision any combination of CPU cores and RAM, bill by the minute, and change CPU or RAM on-the-fly without rebooting VMs. The company runs its own proprietary VM-management software (a highly modified form of KVM) to add cores to virtual machines live and to enable fast VM migration. ProfitBricks targets customers running large databases, clustered compute nodes, and big-data implementations that need high compute and networking performance. The company claims a superior price-performance ratio by enabling customers to deploy fewer, more powerful instances and maximize hardware utilization. Founders Achim Weiss and Andreas Gauger previously built 1&1 Internet, contributing operational experience to ProfitBricks' scaling capabilities; the company has raised capital to support this growth.
