Prognolite builds forecasting software to combat food waste in restaurants. Its proprietary algorithm predicts future guest numbers and menu sales using inputs such as the past two years of sales data, holidays and weather. The company will use a CHF50,000 grant from Klimafonds Stadtwerk Winterthur to further develop the software. That grant was part of a CHF112,000 disbursement to three climate-friendly projects. Klimafonds Stadtwerk Winterthur has funded local and regional CO2-reduction and energy-efficiency projects since 2007. Regional startups can apply to the Klimafonds twice yearly, with deadlines on March 1 and September 1.
