Propagate is a software, development and financing ecosystem led by CEO Ethan Steinberg that helps farms transition acreage to agroforestry. Its platform Overyield provides regenerative farm planning and management software along with agronomic insights, technical assistance, and financing to reduce risk for farmers. The Propagate ecosystem also includes commercial agroforestry development (Propagate Farm Services) and equity investments for agroforestry transition (Agroforestry Partners). The company currently advises over 20,000 acres, supports over 760,000 trees and shrubs, and actively manages over 600 commercial acres through regional agroforestry hubs. Propagate plans to use new funding to roll out profitability and production forecasting tools within Overyield, hire additional experts, and plant more trees across the estimated 158 million acres of U.S. farmland suitable for tree crops. Founded in 2017 and based in Denver, Propagate is Techstars-backed, a portfolio company of Elemental Excelerator, and a partner of USDA’s Partnerships for Climate Smart Commodities. Propagate Ventures combines GIS-driven software analytics with field implementation and investor matchmaking to help farmers incorporate trees and tree crops into agricultural systems. The company maps land, recommends appropriate tree species, predicts long-term cost-to-revenue and yields, and manages on-the-ground installation and operations. It connects third-party investors to farmers via a revenue-sharing model and works to arrange commercial buyer contracts for agroforestry-sourced products. Propagate positions its offering to address both farm profitability and carbon sequestration goals, aiming to help farmers diversify production systems. The group, based in New York and Colorado, has expanded into eight states (primarily in the Northeast and Mid‑Atlantic) and is working with 20 different farms. In support of growth, Propagate received seed funding to scale its services and investor connections.
