Proteus Space builds AI tools to automate satellite design, centered on Mercury, its flagship product that autonomously designs custom satellite buses tailored to specific payloads. Mercury is engineered to minimize errors and rework in precision satellite design. The company also focuses on additive manufacturing, payload integration, digital twins, and de-orbit planning. Proteus plans to broaden government and commercial adoption of Mercury through a partnership with SAIC following SAIC Ventures' investment. The company plans a 2025 demonstration flight of an AI‑designed ESPA LEO satellite that will carry four payloads, including contributions from the University of California, Davis and an unnamed government research organization. Proteus says it has not yet begun detailed satellite design, purchased subsystems, or finalized payload size, weight, and power requirements. To attract customers it will offer qualified clients free preliminary ESPA LEO satellite designs and promises to deliver those preliminary designs within 10 days after an initial NDA technical conversation. The company also plans to offer customers digital versions of physical, hardware, test, and flight models. Proteus intends to self-fund the 2025 demo flight and has previously raised capital to support its work.
