Overview
Prothea is developing a cancer medical device that combines a microendoscope with an image‑processing system to enhance lesion visualisation and guide biopsy and treatment. The company aims to address inaccurate biopsies and limited interventional options for small lesions by integrating imaging with immediate therapeutic options. Prothea plans a first‑in‑human, single‑site, small‑scale bronchoscopy trial to demonstrate procedural success, safety and successful visualisation as primary endpoints. It intends to advance clinical programmes for cancer imaging, biopsy and laser ablation in lung cancer patients and to develop a laser ablation catheter to treat small lesions immediately after visualisation and biopsy. The company also has a pipeline device to identify lung infections in intensive care patients, developed in collaboration with the Wellcome Trust. Prothea is developing AI‑assisted technologies to integrate its image‑processing system with robotic surgery systems and other medical imaging modalities. Financially, Prothea closed a €12m ($13m) Series A to fund these development and clinical activities.
