Protopia AI has developed a software-only Stained Glass Transform™ that protects sensitive information across visual, text, and tabular data so enterprises can use their actual data for AI and ML without exposing identifiers. The solution operates across the ML lifecycle, covering both training and inference, and works alongside existing data-protection and encryption tools without requiring new hardware or platforms. Protopia is beta-testing its product in industries where data sensitivity creates operational slowdowns, including financial services, government, and health care. The core technology is based on inventions by Professor Hadi Esmaeilzadeh of UC San Diego, who is a co-founder and CTO; Eiman Ebrahimi is co-founder and CEO. The company has demonstrated early success, including a Trident Warrior 2022 demo with the U.S. Navy in partnership with NetApp and a collaboration with fintech company Q2 on fraud-detection access. Protopia was named a Gartner Cool Vendor in AI governance and responsible AI and plans to use new funds to expand engineering and advance the product.
