ProtoPie

22 Seocho-daero 78-gil, Seocho-gu, Suite #610, Seoul, 06621, South Korea

Overview

ProtoPie provides a prototyping platform that lets designers create high-fidelity, code-free interactive prototypes for devices ranging from mobile phones to car dashboards and digital kiosks, including sensor-driven interactions. The tool emphasizes handoff to engineering so prototypes can be implemented without developers rebuilding interaction logic. The company was founded by Tony Kim together with two lead engineers from Samsung and Line and launched its product in January 2017. After switching to enterprise licensing last year, ProtoPie has seen rapid growth and now reports 100,000 global paid users and major deals with Microsoft, Google and other tech companies. The startup says most of its revenue comes from markets outside South Korea, notably the U.S., Japan, Germany and China. ProtoPie currently has 33 employees based primarily in Gangnam, Seoul, and plans to use new funding to expand its North American sales team, potentially establish a larger HQ there, and build out collaboration features like a shared content library. Studio XID develops ProtoPie, a prototyping tool that enables digital product designers to create highly interactive prototypes using sensors in smart devices (tilt, proximity, sound) and to generate interactions across devices. Prototypes created in ProtoPie can also integrate with external hardware such as Arduino and littleBits. The company launched ProtoPie commercially last year and has seen adoption by designers in more than 70 countries at companies including Google, Microsoft, Nintendo, IDEO and Alibaba. Studio XID intends to use recent funding to accelerate product development and to expand growth primarily in western markets. The company previously raised a Pre-Series A from Evergreen Investment Partners and the investment arms of Samsung and LINE. Studio XID is based in the Gangnam district of Seoul, South Korea.
